"My" Family at "Our" New Home

It was an extremely sunny day. Aubrynn and I are squinting pretty bad (we always are). Our Photographer friend Karen knew it wasn't the best setting, but I really wanted a Brady Bunch picture on our stairs.

Thoughts on the Balance Between Worship and Performance

Every Sunday men and women all over the nation step onto to church stages. They are equipped with guitars, mics, drums and hearts ready to lead those gathered in worship to God. The number one goal obviously is to engage with God in a reciprocating moment of praise, thanksgiving and encouragement. This is the number one goal, but also there should be a sense that those on stage are engaged with the audience. That could fall under the category of performance.

We have all been to concerts before where the band was engaged with the audience. It wasn't just an "us" watching "them" thing. It was an "us", a part of it all thing. Great concerts feel that way. Like you are on the stage with the band, and the band is enjoying the experience as much as if they were in row 3 seat 2. This all culminates in a swirl of emotions and exclamations of life impacting memories. How trivial all I'm talking about is just a performance by your favorite band. Think how amazing the Coldplay concert was just last week here in Atlanta.(I didn't make it to the concert, but everybody said it was off the chain) Shouldn't our worship experiences be just as engaging?

I think a quality worship experience at church should have a similar and engaging vibe.
We're dealing with this right now at Momentum. On one hand you want to be sure that what is done on stage comes across as worship to God not performance to an audience. On the other hand there should be a sense that the band is engaged with each other and the audience as well as with God. This produces an "experiencing this together" vibe that only comes when those on stage are engaged with those in the seats. If that doesn't happen it comes off a little 2-dimensional.

I pray that as we grow our band's passion to connect with God will increase. Also I pray that our bands ability to engage they're environment will become palpable. Why? Not so we can leave having just a cool memory or swirl of emotions, but so that we can leave forever impacted by our connection together with God in a slice of time.

Sunday Remix 11-16-08

-Amie & I Started the day off by going to the 9am service at my friend Gary Lamb's church in Canton. Revolution was great. Seems like every time I have visited, Gary's been preaching on sex. Great teaching bro, but what's with the preaching barefoot thing. Gary my friend, you are one of a kind.

-I didn't preach this Sunday. Our Jump Start (K-5th grade) Team Leader brought the teaching for the day. Great job Brantley! With Brantley speaking I was able to visit Revolution and then come back to Momentum as a spectator.

-Some thoughts I had as I came back to Momentum Church from Revolution: Revolution is an amazing ministry held in high esteem by just about every serious student of church planting in the nation. Obviously they are doing a great deal right. As Gary says they do "the little things" right.

To pat Momentum on the back I will say this. When I left Revolution Church I wondered how I would feel walking back into Momentum Church. Just a few minutes later. Would there be a huge contrast in quality, vibe, excellence. etc...I was so freakin proud of our teams and what we have put together in Woodstock. Although each ministry is very unique to itself, I didn't feel a huge contrast between the ministries. Obviously we have a lot of little things to step up. On the other hand it was good for me to realize in such a vivid way that our grass is pretty dang green on this side of the fence. The experience deepened my appreciation for Gary, Revolution, but mostly for Momentum Church and what those who call MC home have accomplished! Great Job team!!

-I am always looking to learn from others a few steps ahead of us. This weekend made me realize no wonder we get calls weekly for advice and insight from those whom we are a few steps ahead of. Isn't that how it should be. We are all on the same team. I know I will continue to look, listen, and learn from other ministries. If we can be of help to anyone else we are at your disposal.

Christmas in Woodstock

I can't wait until Sunday to let Momentum Church know what are plans are for Christmas Eve.

We have never done a Christmas Eve event. We are strong proponents that just because everyone else is doing something doesn't mean we have to.

There are a lot of great churches in Woodstock doing a lot of great events on Dec. 24th So we have always pushed the need to offer yet another similar event onto the back burner.

This year as we talked about reaching our community during the Christmas
Season an incredible idea came and yes the 24th will be a perfect opportunity for it.

On Sunday I will let you in on what we believe will be one of the greatest events we have ever done for the people of Woodstock.

...before you start trying to guess, NO we are not throwing elves out of a helicopter.

Sunday Remix 11-9-08

-I can't believe the second Sunday of November has already passed. This has been the fastest year of my life.

-This Sunday went great. Jimmy's set up crew was operating at Mach 2 and did a great job with everything. Nice work gentlemen.

-Jared was leading worship and doing some mentoring at a church in Savannah. I heard he did an awesome job. Josh and the band did a great job with leading worship here at home. It feels good to know that a major contributor to the success of our Sundays can be gone and his teams (sound/tech/music)can still pull out a win for the day.

-Speaking of a win, we saw 4 adults and several children chose to follow Christ today! I know several of their stories and it is awesome to see God moving in their lives.

-I preached on the subject of striving for spiritual maturity. We have been and will always be a great place for the unchurched to connect with God. I am also glad that we are becoming a place passionate about personal & spiritual growth.

-Gas is down to 1.99! My gas sucking Dodge truck is much happier.

-We are seeing our church finances getting better. Mad props to everyone who has stepped up in giving. I know it is a challenge, but God's promises regarding finances are true. God will bless the generous heart and He will bless the generous church.

-We are planning on doing our first Christmas Eve event. We still have a few details to work out. If all goes as planned it should be an incredible night for the city of Woodstock. Start praying for this night...right now.

McCain Concession Speech

Senator McCain just gave the classiest concession speech ever. God bless you John McCain.

President Elect Obama

Many of my political opinions differ from President Elect Obama, but I can't help but be proud of our country this night. 4 decades after the civil rights act a black man is elected to the highest office in the land. Amazing.

I have many close Black American friends and tonight I celebrate with you a cultural victory for our country. I trust President Obama will live up to his political rhetoric of bridging the aisle and establishing change together with those of us with more conservative views and those who hold liberal views.

Culturally we have bridged a huge milestone. For that America let's celebrate. Politically let's pray that conservative values and policies are not lost altogether during the next four years.

Awesome Season of Ministry

I always look at what we are doing as a church in seasons. The past two years we have laid out a pretty extreme plan for August-October. I am glad to say that we have seen great success the past two years during this season.

This year during this season we did our God at the Movies series in August which was awesome. This was a great series to invite our unchurched friends to. One of my closest friends started coming to Momentum with his family during this series. Also many of your friends did too. We finished August with an Adopt a Block event at Noonday Mobile Home Park as we brought Christmas in August to that community.

We then did the whole "God of this City" series and introduced the "Momentum Church" name. Man that unleashed a firestorm of enthusiasm and growth. I never imagined our church being so amped about our new name and ease of relating to the new name.
It's like this is who we have always been we just needed to say it. Once it was said something shifted...Ya'll are crazy now! I love it. Keep bringing it as you help people journey forward through life with God, purpose, and friends.

Oct. 5th brought us our annual tailgate party and the launch of what has turned out to be an amazing series (Pirates) We finished this season and the series up with Kid's Fest and a Pirate Party.

Everyone's faithful work has made for a truly memorable and impactful three months. I can't wait to see what God does in and through you the next 3 months. You're getting some serious kingdom stuff accomplished. Know that God is pleased and your pastor couldn't be more happy. May God continue to use all of us together to accomplish His agenda in Woodstock and the surrounding area.

Great Weekend at Momentum Church

-The Woodstock Kid's Fest went great. Barbara Graves did a fantastic job leading this event. She also did a great job with leading our Kid's Pirate event on Sunday afternoon.
Thanks to everyone for serving at these two kid's events.

-I was stoked that a boy from my soccer team visited Momentum with his grandmother. By the way the Blue Rockets were awesome on Saturday winning their last game 4-1! Great job team see you in the spring.

-This Sunday we finished our Pirates: Reclaiming my stolen treasure series. I finished with a teaching on finances and the peace we can achieve even in the face of economic uncertainties. I loved what we titled the teaching. We called it "get your hands off my booty" (think pirates ok) Ha! That's funny I don't care who you are.

-Our finances are turning around. For about 7 weeks our giving was way down. No I mean wwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy doooooooowwwwwwwwwnnn. I am so excited to say that in the past 2 weeks we have seen our giving getting back to where it should be. Thanks to all those at Momentum who are being faithful in the face of current economic conditions.

-We had two adults make the decision to follow Christ on Sunday. They have been coming a couple of months and were guests of guests who came as a guests of a couple who came to Christ this time last year. I hope you followed that...that's what I'm talking about. People reaching people who are reaching people. That's better than any billboard or mailer. Thanks Momentum for allowing God to use you to reach the world you do life with.

Sunday Remix 10-26-08

-Sunday was a little hectic with the kids having their dress up day and baptisms taking place after service.

-The day was as powerful as we all expected. It was awesome seeing God's truth be elevated over the lies that tried to hold people back from God's best. Your testimonies were amazing. We recorded the service this week into the computer and will be putting together a video from the Cardboard Testimonies portion of the service.

-Be patient this week with the uploading of the podcast. we are trying some new things with how the service is recorded.

-Thank God for those who were baptized this week and for the 4 people that committed their lives to Christ at the end of service. God filled the room with His hope, love, and power and people responded. I love it when God makes Himself hard to deny!

-In the past 9 weeks we have seen 30% growth as a church. I guess you could say we are experiencing some serious momentum!

Special Day at Momentum

-Guys this coming Sunday is going to be insane.

-The stories that are coming in are off the hook. God is so good and has been so faithful. Thanks for sharing your stories. I have been crying all week....dang it!

-If you haven't emailed your story do so at: Stories@MomentumChurch.tv

-We are doing a special piece during service using your stories in a creative way. If you email your story I will contact you to let you in on what we are doing. We will not be using your stories without permission. Just trust me on this. The day will impact both you who have a story and those who need to be reminded of all God is capable of doing.

-The service will end with baptisms. If you would like to make a public profession of faith and celebrate what God is doing in your life through baptism please email: Info@MomentumChurch.tv

-Be sure to invite every person you know to be at church this Sunday. I don't think we have ever presented anything as powerful as what we have prepared for this Sunday.

Sunday Remix 10-19-08

-Had a few new guys helping with set up yesterday. Always love seeing new MC-ers getting involved.

-Josh and Tom led worship at a church plant we have been mentoring in Savannah (Tapestry Church). It was cool having a couple of our own out spreadin' some Momentum love. Would that be "Mo-love"....maybe not.

-I think Tony surprised all of us with his Pirate skills.

-Had another crew from KSU in the house. I look forward to them getting involved.

-I have been working on my sermon length and felt I went a little long this past week. Good stuff, just went a little long.

-Thanks MC for giving myself and our lead guys appreciation gift cards. Too nice!

-The Pirate series seems to be resonating with a lot of people. I think at times we have all had things taken from us. I hope that through this series our people will get passionate about walking in all that God hopes for them.

-Along those lines the enemy is in our wallet. This past week's giving was way down. Really the last 6 weeks have been way under budget. Pray for finances to increase, and pray if that increase is suppose to come from you :)

-Looking forward to what we have planned for next Sunday. Remember to send your stories to: stories@MomentumChurch.tv
Also if you would like to be baptized next week email: info@MomentumChurch.tv

Thoughts on Momentum Church Leaders

Today I am reflecting on all those who serve at Momentum Church. We have a great force of volunteers and I appreciate each of you. I really want to take a moment though and thank all those who serve in leadership. Our lead team: Jared, Robby, and Brantley have been knocking it out of the park lately. Although we have a great lead team it's our support leaders over the various areas of ministry that have been blowing my mind.

Thank you for your creativity, innovation, ownership, and administration. I really believe that God is blessing your efforts and those efforts are the reason why we are experiencing growth. Thank you for giving me the peace of mind that as we grow we have a an awesome team that is partnering together to accomplish the purpose of Momentum Church.

Team Momentum you have what it takes...and you are getting it done!!!

Some thoughts on the near future of Momentum

For the past two years the highest percentage of people who have made Momentum home have been those who were unchurched or had not been regularly attending church for a long time. That is why we exist and do all that we do. Momentum is an exciting place to be a part of and as we grow larger more and more people are going to want to be a part of this movement.

That sounds great and it is, but I just want to let everyone know that we are not going to shift from what God has called us to do. As we have passed the 200 mark and prepare to reach 400 people in the near future we will be tempted to become safe, predictable, and spread thin in order too minister to "everyone's needs". If we do that then we will miss out on the reason why God birthed us and is blessing us.

We will remain laser focused on what God has called us to do. Momentum will continue to attract the lost and disconnected, but I know churched people looking for something fresh and new will be drawn in as well. That is fine, but just know from the start that we aren't here for you...we are here to help those disconnected from God become fully devoted followers of Christ. You will be challenged and you will grow, but only if you find yourself embracing the call of God that is upon Momentum Church. If not you'll probabely sound a lot like this post written by one of Momentum's Favorites, Perry Noble.

Momentum Church, we exist to help people move forward on their journey with God, purpose and friends. we do that through Sunday experiences, Kids and Student ministry, Journey Groups, and outreach. That's it. That's who we are. Jump in and take part in what God has used and will use in Cherokee County to bring hundreds and someday thousands to faith and growth in Christ.

Thanks for allowing me the joy of pastoring such a hungry for God and passionate for people, group!

Love ya'll

Ross

Sunday Remix 10-12-08

-Another great day at Momentum.

-Since the name change there has been a real shift in well....Momentum. Attendance is climbing, people are getting involved in Journey Groups, people are inviting friends.
There is a palpable excitement about what God is doing and is about to do through Momentum Church.

-The band did an amazing medley focusing in on the grace of God.

-Had a bunch of our college students back from school. Always love seeing them.

-We busted out some live drama for the first time. Mitch, Mark, and Dalton really pulled off the pirate skit teaching lead in. Ye did a right fine job ye salty dogs.

-I preached on reclaiming our stolen freedom. You could tell the subject was really hitting home with a lot of people.

-We promoted a special element we are doing in our Oct. 26th service. Don't forget to email the story of what God has done in your life. ross@MomentumChurch.tv

-If you plan on being baptized on the 26th don't forget to sign up and pick up your info. If you want to email your info@MomentumChurch.tv we will email you the information regarding baptism.

-We finished the day off having dinner at a friends restaurant. I had the most amazing meatloaf ever. It was made of bison, Italian sausage, and black angus beef. If you are looking for a great place with good atmosphere and crazy comfort food check out Meehann's Public House

-Went to bed a man at peace.

Pics from Sunday

I'm loving all the excitement and buzz I am hearing this week regarding the name change. Momentum Church you guys are awesome. Can't wait to hang out with you all Sunday at the tailgate party.

We still need some people to set signs out on the weekend. Let me know if you are interested. Behind word of mouth the signs are the number one reason people say they visited Momentum Church.

Sunday Remix 9-28-08

-After two months of anticipation today finally arrived. What a day!

-Ever since we started Embassy Metro Church we have seen people's lives changed through a relationship with Christ. In turn, Christ through their lives has changed the lives of others. At the Embassy we often say we are “with you on the journey”. Our passion is to help people journey through life with God, purpose, and friends. Those that have come to the embassy the past two years have found a place of safety and direction while on their journey through life, but not only are we with people on their journey we are helping people move forward on their journey.

Often we find people stuck in addiction, debt, insecurity, religion, abuse, you name it we have experienced people being held back by it. Through our Sunday services and weekly journey groups we are seeing people move forward into healthy, free, and Christ led lives. This forward movement is what gets me pumped. God can change, lead and give you the momentum necessary to live out the life He always hoped for you. With this in mind we decided it was time to change the name of our church to better reflect who we are and what we are doing in the lives of others.

We realized that at times “embassy” was something that didn’t automatically define itself to those outside of the church. If someone took the time to look into it or if you came to the church for awhile you would develop an affinity for it, but to the unchurched and dechurched it just didn’t translate easily. I have always said we will do anything except sin to reach those who a disconnected from God. So we’ve done it. Embassy Metro Church has not come to an end it has just picked up momentum. From now on we are “Momentum Church” and we look forward to helping people journey forward through life with God purpose and friend!!!

-I was blown away by the excitement and unity that I felt from the entire church.

-It was great giving out t-shirts, car window decals, and new invite cards to everybody today. You all work hard and deserve some free stuff!!!

-I hate that some had to miss so this should fill you in on everything. I am excited about the next step in God's plan for all of us and for our city. We started with 40 at the theater 2 1/2 years ago. We had over 200 people yesterday and I hope everyone of you feels like you are a part of the core group of people that will dynamically touch this city and the surrounding region in significant ways. You may not have been there when we launched emc, but you are here now and you are a vital part in the start of "Momentum Church"

Love you guys and I look forward to what God has in store for you, our families, and this area.

-After moving into our new home this week and not getting a lot of sleep the past couple of days, I came into the pulpit worn out. I didn’t feel like I nailed the teaching, but I still felt God’s leading on the whole day. Truly it was a historic day in the life of our church. I believe many of will look back and say “we were there when”…

-Jared & the band knocked worship out of the park, but where I want to give Jared props is in the area of design. Man he burned the candle at both ends the past 30 days. He did a great job with all our signage changes, t-shirt design, invite cards, web design, etc…
His new stuff has a bunch of my pastor friends begging for Jared to do a little moonlighting for them. Well let’s let the guy get some rest first. Thanks Jared for your hard work and willingness to learn whatever is necessary to get a job done

Amazing Week

-This has been one of the busiest yet memorable weeks in my life.

-Last Sunday went incredible as we began the "God of this City" series. I challenged the body to make a difference with their lives. Don't just vote for an administration and expect them to live out your preferred agenda. "Heaven waits for us to make a difference" was our mantra of the day. We love to polarize. Run to our corners and focus on our fight. God needs us to focus on our feet and walk out His agenda in our cities.

-We had a bunch of people sign up to get started in various ministries. Next week we will be helping them get plugged in. This week everything has been focused on this coming Sunday.

-Our Volunteers Appreciation Picnic was great as 90 people gathered together. No wonder God is doing so many awesome things at emc. Ya'll are a great team!

-We were told at the picnic, "we don't eat shredded chicken sandwiches in the South" oops. Sorry guys. That's what you get when your Ohio born pastors and wives put on the picnic. We'll we all voted to never do that again so...it's pulled pork next time :) Ha!

-We had a gathering of our key leaders at the embassy to fill everybody in on next week's announcement. It was incredible the amount of excitement and unity that was sensed as we revealed what God is about to do through all of us.

-On Tuesday we closed on our house! Thank God we got it done before all the economic fall out took place. On Wednesday a ton of people from church moved us. You guys blew our minds. You will never know how much that meant to us. Especially in the middle of such an important and labor intensive week at the church.

-Well needless to say this has been an amazing week. What will top it off is spending Sunday with a packed house of people crazy about God and this city and talking about the next thing God is about to do with us.

-I can't believe I get to be your friend and pastor. Thanks!

Seriously late on the Sunday Remix

We have been getting ready to move and today is the big day. Sunday was incredible and I'll have to blog about it later. I can't wait to tell everyone our big announcement this weekend. Don't miss Sunday!

Big Day Tomorrow!

Can't wait for tomorrow. We will begin our new series: "God of this City" and I am fired up! I am so proud of everyone that serves so faithfully at the embassy. You all amaze me weekly with your sacrifice. You truly are making a difference in many people's lives.

We will celebrate your faithfulness tomorrow at our Volunteer's Appreciation Picnic. I'm looking forward to our time together as we eat and give out a few awards. One of the awards is titled the, "Keep pastor Out Of Jail Award". You'll have to show up at the picnic to find out who to, and why this award is being presented.

Next Sunday, the 28th, I will tell the biggest announcement in the history of our church. "I have a secret (said in a spooky sing songy way)".

Make plans to be there and stop trying to bribe me to let you in on the secret. Although a mountain bike for me, or iphones for the staff would probably be enough to pry it out of me. HA! Just kiddin'....not really.

Guys you make the adventure that we are all on a blast. Thanks for letting me be your pastor!

Sunday Remix 9-14-08

-It was great being back home. Nothing like preaching at the embassy.

-Josh did a great job leading worship today.

-We had a bunch of guests today which was awesome because we had a ton of regulars gone due to the Cherokee County school break.

-It was wonderful taking communion together while the band led us in "Jesus Paid it All".

-Everybody is trying to get out of me what the "Big Announcement" is. On Sunday the 28th you'll find out. Don't miss it... be there.

-I'm hearing great things about the success of this season of Journey Groups. If you haven't found a small group yet get in one ASAP. Your life will be enriched because of it.

-Finished the night running a 5k with my friend Charlie Delanuez. I'm new at running,so Charlie thanks for the pointers and the Carbo glue energizer goo.

Anticipating the Next Few weeks

-On the 21st we have a Volunteers Appreciation Picnic from 4-6 at the pavilion behind the Cherokee Government/Recreation building on Hwy 5. Can't wait to hang out with those who make emc happen. If you serve, have served, or desire to serve we want you at this event. Email: ross@embassymetro.org to let us know how many will be in your party. Kids are invited too.

-On the 21st from 7-8pm there will be a special gathering of staff and team leaders at my house. Child care will be provided.

-On the 21st we are launching a 2 week series called "God of this City".

-On the 28th, as part of this series, I will be revealing the single most important announcement in the history of our church. Don't miss this day or you will forever regret it. We will be giving out free stuff to everyone that comes. What? Be there and find out for yourself.

-On Oct. 5th We will host a Tailgate Party as we invite friends and family to come check out "Life in Christ" and what God is doing at the embassy. This will be a great event following a 40 minute emc experience. We will have food, music, games, and bounce houses.

I'm Sick

I've been sick the past two days. I have no energy and I can't keep my mind straight on anything. I hate getting sick especially when we have so many amazing things happening the next few weeks.

PRAY FOR ME. Thanks

The Justice System is So Messed Up

Last year my friend Bobby Houseman was senselessly gunned downed by his neighbor. Bobby's neighbor went on a shooting rage, killing my friend and his own brother who was a cop.

Today the justice system in Ohio found the killer "not guilty" by reason of insanity.

RIDICULOUS. Our prayers are with all those who are hurting over this travesty of injustice.

Our New Home

We placed a bid on a home in Woodstock on Friday night. The owner accepted our bid by early afternoon Saturday. It is a one owner home built in 84. The man died 2 years ago and his son sold it to a realtor who fixed the place up. The realtor really knows what he is doing. The house is immaculant and turn key ready.

Closing isn't until September 25th...a life time away. Brantley closed and moved into his house two weeks ago. Jared closes on his house tomorrow. He'll be moving this week. Then in a few weeks it's our turn. It feels good to be getting the roots deeply entrenched in Woodstock, GA!

Sunday Remix 8-31-08

-I think we have turned a corner on setting up on time. We have went several weeks now with everything clicking like clock work. Our sound was ready to roll this week 20 minutes earlier than usual. Great job team!

-I thought on Labor day weekend you are suppose to have low attendance. We had the highest regular service attendance in the history of emc! On a labor day weekend. Ya'll are crazy :)

-Brantley Johnson, the man that is over our K-5th grade ministry, preached yesterday and did an amazing job closing out our "God @ the Movies" series. I'm so proud of this young man and his wife Hannah. They started at the embassy a little less than two years ago. Brantley is our first "staff intern" and is quick to take on any task set before him. Great job bro...even if you are a Tennesee fan!

-God is definitely up to some amazing things at emc. I can't wait to let you in on what is coming up in just a few weeks. Whatever you do, clear your calendar you don't want to miss the emc experience on Sept. 21st and 28th.

-Saw another person come to Christ this Sunday! ....ENOUGH SAID.

God don't ever let me forget what we are here for.

I'm Fried

Today has been a crazy day. I got to enjoy reading the first 5 chapters of Acts in the Message Bible. Usually on Mondays I spend some time doing my Sunday remix. I have been swamped all day. It's now 6:18 and I'm still not home. Started the day at the Gym at 5:30am. I'm out of here. I'll have to do the remix later tonight or tomorrow.

I will say this Sunday was awesome and God really use the day to affect people's lives significantly.

Sunday Remix 8-17-08

-Yesterday was one of those Sundays where when you put your head on the pillow you are happy to be doing what you are doing. The theater is filling up with friends and family. We haven't done any advertising since our billboards came down last December. You all are doing it. Your living your life for Christ and influencing others to follow Him and people are doing just that. Keep up being the agents of life change that you are becoming.

-There is nothing I love more than when a person comes to Christ at the embassy, then they bring someone who comes to Christ, then that person influences someone to come and they too find Christ. That's one cool thing about being a maturing church (2 1/2 years old) We are beginning to see people who were reached, reaching people who are reaching people. I LOVE IT! That's the number one way that you see God's kingdom grow and that will always be the number way that we see Embassy grow.

-Although personal invite is #1 if anybody wants to throw $5,000-7,000.00 for a 3 month billboard campaign that would be cool too! :)

-We set world record times yesterday with set up. The band got the gold for bringing it and Brian did an amazing job on the mix.

-A couple of weeks ago we set the standard that we will never start later than 10:02. The various teams have risen to that standard and I thank you.

-You can tell that EMC has taken a giant step forward this summer...and I thought in the summer you are suppose to just coast. Not you guys!

-I had personal friends at the Embassy again this week and I want to thank all the teams for what you do. You make it very easy for me to invite people to church. EMC is definitely the place I would want to go even if I wasn't the pastor. I know that when people come they will be greeted, encouraged, motivated, and connected to God at a greater level. Thanks for making that happen week after week. EMC-ers you rock!

Sunday Remix 8-10-08

-Great day.

-Great attendance in August.

-2 people got saved!

-Amie and my friends came to church.

-Preached 30 minutes. Really working on that. Had to be the most simple
sermon I have ever preached. Simple, but I could sense God using it like crazy.

-We started on time this Sunday and will from now on. Thank you team.

-I got testy with everybody this week., but I am not apologizing for it. People give us a window to reach them each week and that window begins at 10:02am. We will not rob from people the full opportunity we have to connect them to what should be the greatest experience of their week. We will not start late ever again...! LOVE YA :)

-Had a great lunch with a former pastor's family who has made emc their home. Love them. It stinks how churches can treat their pastors. Man the stories. I am so thankful for my previous church and for the way embassy folks have treated myself, family, and staff. EMC-ers ya'll should be proud of yourselves. I know I am proud of you.

New Series Begins This Sunday

This Sunday, COMING SOON, we begin our annual "God at the Movies" series. THE ADVENTURE! This is always one of our greatest series to invite friends and family. We will look at "reel" life issues and see what God's Word has to say about some of the experiences we all face. THE THRILL! See you Sunday at 10:02am at the Cherokee 16 theater. BE THERE...there...there...there...

Be a part of it!

We started EMC two and a half years ago and have seen God do incredible things in people's lives. During the next few months it's going to get insane around here. I can't wait for the next three teaching series we will be doing. I can't wait to see your friends and family's lives changed. I can't wait to let you in on what God is setting into motion. We will look back over this next season for years to come and be able to say, "I was a part of it all"

Perry Noble's Coaching Network and a Wish

I went through a tech detox and somehow missed out on the info that Perry was doing a coaching network. I contacted his admin who said they were filled up and to look at being a part of the next network. I was fine with that and look forward to it, but after seeing some of the guys I know personally who are going to be in this group I am seriously bummed. I would have loved to be with Gary, Tadd, and Chris.

If giving my left kidney would get me in the group starting next week I would say Tadd bring the knife cause I know you got one. Chris set on me so I won't squirm. And Gary start cutting, cuz you are always threatening to cut somebody.

I'm serious...If there is any way just let me know.

Inspiration

Karen our neighbor, friend, recent Christ follower and emc-er was a great source of inspiration to me while I was loosing my weight. She lost 170+ pounds naturally. That is amazing! She wrote a little about me and my weight loss in her blog yesterday. Check out her amazing story here

Live safe? I don't think so!

I heard about a guy recently who said he doesn't like surprises. He chooses to live life safe. He also said he doesn't like miracles. See in order to have a miracle you have to first have a problem, crisis, or lack. Well frankly I hate living safe. I say get out on the edge where you need God to show up and if he doesn't you die.

Church planting, when it comes to ministry is on the edge. OKmaybe not as much as mission work in one of the _______stan countries, but it still isn't a walk in the park. There are highs and lows. Victories and struggles. Your faith is tested often. This summer has been no different.

In the summer most church finances drop. June and July were tough on the embassy, but in the past 7 days...oh my goodness God has shown up. Oh yeah...provision, supply, whatever you want to call it, I call it a miracle. I like the line in Narnia referrring to Aslan. "Is He safe....no He's not safe, but He is good". You see sometimes God trips me out, but He never trips me up.

Living for God is not safe, but it is good. I thank God for the waves of crisis because through them we see that He still walks on the water. He is still able to provide a sure hand right when you need it.

Sunday Remix 8-3-08

-This Sunday was off the chain for sure.

-We broke out a second trailer. The thought of that freaked me out a little because we usually are pushing to start on time as it is. It went awesome! Everything from the Welcome/Cafe' area and Kid's Live (K-5) was in the 12 ft trailer. The main theater, nursery, and preschool stuff was in the 20 footer.

-Our K-5th Team unloaded the cafe and their room. Our load control team went right to unloading the main room. Usually the cafe stuff is unloaded first. This accomplished two things. It doubled the work force for overall load control. Second, It started the load out of the main room 15 minutes earlier. What I love about this procedural change. It came from the ground up as people saw the need, provided the trailer, and set in motion the changes to make it happen. Great Job!!!

-Robby started "Reverb" this Sunday. Reverb is a group designed for 6&7 graders. It takes place during my Sunday teaching. They begin in the main room and exit after worship to go to Reverb. From my 6th grader it sounds like it went great. Thanks to Echo Student Ministries for making this happen for our younger students.

-I had a blast preaching about something I have a great passion for. We finished up our Summer of Rock series. We looked at the first disciples "Come and See" model of evangelism. I said that every Christian should live to influence others to experience Christ. We can't make people "follow" Christ, but we can influence them to "experience" Christ. When we do that Jesus himself will make it very difficult to deny.

-We brought our kids and school teachers in to pray over them in preparation for the coming school year. I called out 5 names: Adalee, Jessica, Brianna, Katie, and Ryan. I bragged on these kids because they make up 25% of one class room at Carmel Elementary. One influenced another who influenced another...and now the kids and their families all come to EMC.

Dude that rocks. These kids didn't back down, but they invited..."come and see" and Jesus did the rest!!

-The Band rocked Tom Petty's "No I Won't Back Down" when it comes to influencing others to Christ we are not going to back down.

-Next week we begin our God at the Movies series. Don't forget to invite 3 friends. This is your chance to influence others to experience Christ. I promise you...you do your part.....and I will do mine. August will be as insane as you want it!!!

-Lately I've been saying to myself, "I'm not going to say freakin as much". I have been saying it for years and at times it creeps into my Sunday sermon. I was so freakin'....er I mean incredibly proud of myself on Sunday because I did not use the weak adjective. Instead
I self-filtered and skipped it. Ok before you praise me for self control and decorum in the pulpit....I did say the word "dammit". I think my self-filterer still needs a little adjusting. To know the context you'll have to listen to the podcast.

-Last night we had a great final Discipleship for Leadership night. I love seeing our leaders getting a hold of what God is doing in and through us together as a church.

-I have been finding it hard to sleep lately. I am more excited about emc and it's future than the day we launched 2 1/2 years ago.

-Emc-ers pray for me as I lead out of the heart and vision of God. I am more excited than ever, but I feel more spiritual attack then ever as well.

-I Love you guys. I am so pleased to be your pastor.

My Weight Loss Testimonial

Below is a testimonial I wrote for our gym. It explains where I was at with my health last year and how far I have come with the help of our trainer. I still have 20-30 pounds to lose, but I am sure not where I was last year. Praise God!

Before:

After:

My name is Ross Wiseman and I was severely over weight. I am 35 years old and for the majority of my life very athletic. Five years ago I destroyed my shoulder in a dirt bike accident. I ballooned from 175 pounds to 230 pounds in a short period of time. When I finally started to get back into shape I tore my ACL in a soccer match. I began to gain weight again and quickly reached 230 pounds again.

If you don’t take control of life, life will take control of you. That is exactly what happened. Three years ago my family moved to Woodstock, GA to begin Embassy Metro Church. As lead pastor of a new and growing church I put the family and church before my own needs and quickly got into a routine of work and “low impact” family time. I didn’t do anything physical for two years. Oh, I bought a gym membership to another place, but I did not have the motivation or guidance to even reach the smallest goals.

This brings us to the part of the story where my life was given back to me. Last fall I met Debbie Roness. She is a personal trainer at Body Plex in Woodstock, GA. Our boys were on the same soccer team. As we made friends with Debbie and her husband Phil they began to attend our church. Debbie says she remembers seeing me perspire and get winded so easily as I preached and moved around on stage. As much as I hate to hear that…she’s probably right.

I had blown up to 270 pounds and at 5’8” felt miserable. My family means everything to me, but I was in a cycle where I had no energy. I would fall asleep within minutes of sitting in my recliner. I would avoid putting my girls to sleep at night because frankly my chest hurt when I walked up the stairs to their room. I always prayed for an all American boy and God gave me just that. Now I was wasting that gift by being so out of shape I didn’t even want to kick a ball around with him or wrestle on the living room floor. Ridiculous! An athlete who was on his way to diabetes, hypertension, destroyed joints, and the stress that comes to a marriage when a man wont be a man. Not only was there a strain on my personal life, it was affecting me as a leader as well. I had lost my confidence, and leadership edge. You can’t lead people if you don’t lead yourself.
It still hurts to even think about that because that wasn’t me. Deep inside I was the confident and disciplined leader with an athletic edge who owned the respect and admiration of his family. I needed someone to help reach in and pull that back out of me.

Debbie Roness was that someone. She put me on a healthy eating plan, trained me for three days a week, and got me doing cardio 5 days a week. Debbie has been a source of encouragement, education, and discipline. With out her help I would not have lost 60lbs in five months (from 270 to 210). I would not have developed the strength and stamina I now have. I am mountain biking with 20 year olds and holding my own. I would not see the pride my wife and children have when they look at me and we do “high impact” family activities. I would not be the leader that my staff and church need me to be. And I would not be the man that I knew I was, but needed someone to help me find again.

Debbie you helped me find me and for that I will forever be grateful!

Thank you!
-The Wiseman’s (Ross, Amie, Adalee, Aubrynn, & Grant)

Tragedy hits our Cherokee County Outdoor YMCA

One of our emc-ers works at the outdoor YMCA. On Sunday afternoon I received the call that one of his fellow employees had been tragically killed in a parachuting accident. Olen Reid Ashe, just 23, died instantly attempting his 299th jump. Reid had made a huge impact at the Y teaching climbing skills for the past two years.

Today I was called in to speak to and pray with some of the staffers. Next Tuesday night I get the honor to be a part of a memorial service for Reid at the YMCA climbing wall.

Please keep this family in prayer. Without the strength of God bearing this burden would be impossible.

250

What is in a number? I think every church planter if he is honest with himself has numeric goals in mind as he set's out to start the church. I know when I set to out to begin the embassy I didn't have too many numeric targets, but I did have a few.

I knew we needed at least 40 people to launch at the theater. So that was the first goal to go from 8 (Wiseman/Hager's) to a launch team of 40. After we had our public launch, I looked forward to the huge benchmark of averaging 100 people in weekly attendance. That was big because the average church plant in America after 5 years averages 90 people.

It is hard to look at numbers in the summer because attendance drops off considerably. We experienced the same the past two summers and attendance bounced back to pre-summer numbers by September. If that is the case we should be approaching a solid 175 people weekly by September/October.

Numbers are not the goal, but numbers represent people. I am excited to see what God is doing in people's lives. I do believe that we could be reaching 250 people weekly in the next 6-9 months. Is that the goal? No not really. Reaching people for Christ is the goal. The number 250 is just a benchmark as we begin to make inroads into the lives of the unchurched of Cherokee/North Cobb Counties.

Let's dream together, pray together, work together, and look forward together to the great days ahead as God gives us the momentum necessary to do what He is calling us to do!

Sunday Remix 7-27-08

-After last Sunday's technical debacle I was pleased to see the team pulled off a great day! Thanks goes out to the load control team, sound & lighting team, the band, hospitality team, and all our incredible kids workers. Even in the middle of the summer you guys left it all on the court yesterday. Great job.

-When I think about what it takes to be a portable church it blows my mind. It is definitely the extreme sport of ministry. Truth be told if it is about us it's not worth stacking it up week after week. Knowing that we serve because of Christ and to give Him an opportunity to change lives, makes every bit of it worth it all. I thank God for all of you at the Embassy that get that. I appreciate all you do for God and this city.

-I have reeled the length of my teaching time back in following vacation. I really enjoyed speaking about the Judas' in our lives that God uses to release His best in us. If you missed yesterday check out the podcast.

-This week it seemed like everybody was on vacation. I am looking forward to summer being over. Can't wait to have everybody back in the house again. Also looking forward to our finances bumping back up. Summer is always difficult financially. Our July was nearly 40% below budget. That's crazy. So pray, tithe, and if you feel led to give sacrificially it would come at a good time :)

-Had a great time last night with a group of our leaders. The past 9 months have been great as we have seen the leadership base broaden at emc. I'm looking forward to seeing these leaders using their abilities and gifts for God's purposes.

Inspiring Story of Courage

Great Staff Meeting

Last night we had a landmark staff meeting. You know a meeting when you look back upon and realize, it was right in that moment everything took a leap forward. Things were set in motion last night that will change embassy metro church forever. Things were set in motion that will move our staff forward into new levels of effectiveness.

Amie, my wife said it so clearly after the meeting. She said that "in spite of a Sunday where everything technically went wrong. And in spite of summer finances (funds get so low in the summer) we are looking ahead and dreaming about what's next and how are we going to get there".

That's what leadership is about. Yes, we will fix what went wrong Sunday. Yes, the finances will improve as family vacations end and people return to their usual schedules (or if some one feels led to give mad money to the cause...ha ha just kidding...sort of) When things get tough you can't stop looking ahead.

God answered the heart of this leader when last night as we looked ahead He brought a lot into focus. Some of the things we discussed won't even come into completion until 2020. That's crazy, but that's what leadership is about. Deal with your current situations, but never stop looking and leading forward. If you do that, it will play into you finding the momentum necessary to get you to the vision God has given you for your life, family, and ministry/business.

Crazy Sunday at the Embassy

Yesterday was quite a wreck, but we didn't allow technical difficulties to derail the essence of the day.

It literally was the weirdest day since we launched. Nothing was working and somehow I missed the memo that the kids were going to be in the service. It wasn't all our kid's team leader's fault. He told me two months ago, but somehow It slipped my mind.

So the day was a little crazy which is frustrating anytime, but when you have a bunch of guests and 2nd timers at the church you hate to have anything go wrong.

Apart from all that went wrong we had a lot that went right. Jared stepped up and led worship acoustic style because the band was not coming through the speakers. Jared rolled with it. I preached the first few minutes with no amplification, but we rolled with it. Our amazing "rock band" intro didn't even get off the ground, but that isn't what the day was all about anyway.

When the day was over God's Word was spoken clearly, and Christ touched us significantly as we sought after Him during worship. Simple....church at it's best. Let's never forget the essence of what we do week to week is more important than the extras.

Still Learning

This past Sunday I frustrated myself. I hadn't preached at the embassy in 4 weeks so I wanted to bring it and bring it I did. I think I preached two of the finest sermons ever preached in the HISTORY OF MAN.

Ha! No really. Check out the podcast. There is a spot around 24 minutes where I should have said something like..."Next week we'll look at the Disciple Peter"...Let's pray, but Nooo! I rolled into another 23 minute sermon on Peter. Both great sermons but stuck together it lessened the impact of both sermons.

What lesson did I learn. I learned that you need to allow your content to shape the series, not the length of the series shape the content. I knew that I wanted to teach on Peter, Thomas, Judas Iscariot, and Andrew. This means a four week series. I really wanted it to be 4 weeks, but while preparing for last Sunday God really gave me some great stuff to teach on in the intro of the series. I should have preached the first half. Slowed down a little bit and enjoyed covering the material at a slower rate. Then next week cover Peter and what it looks like to embrace the call of a true disciple. Well I didn't want to make the series stretch five weeks so I pushed the intro and Peter together which left a 47 minute sermon that to me felt rushed. I guess I'm still learning :)

Summer of Rock Intro: Name that Artist

On Sunday I led into our Summer of Rock series with a creative intro. It included a fictional story of a life changed as a person became a disciple of Christ.

Take a look at the next paragraph and see if you can name the artist connected to the songs put your list in a comment. Let's see who is the first to get them all.

I know there is some of you in here…you have been through a Hard Day’s Night…. Felt like you were Free fallin’ you couldn’t get any Respect and you felt like you were about to bite the dust You found yourself saying “I can’t get no Satisfaction. I feel like a Voodoo Child.
"On the outside you were a sharp dressed man, or maybe a beautifulBrown eyed girl but the truth is you were Bad to the Bone.

You knew you needed help you were Dazed and Confused thinking you could find Nirvana trying everything to find peace, but you were on a Highway to Hell then you heard it through the grape vine that there is Stairway to Heaven
His name is Jesus Tell me What I Say

Some people said you were just Superstitious you were having a breakdown, but others were telling you if you could just get to the Father that… Papa’s Got a Brand new bag.

Some of you might think that Jesus is Just alright with me, but that’s not you. When Jesus got a hold of your life you were like,
"Good Golly Miss Molly" You said, "Jesus showed up and I did a roundabout. And I knew right then that I was going to turn turn turn my life over to Him."

At that moment Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. The Bible symbolizes the Spirit as a dove. And right then this Free Bird came to live on the inside of you and He made you fly like an Eagle.

You got so excited you went and told your friend Laya then you got on a phone and called a neighbor you said, "Hey Jude I use to be Like a Rolling Stone. But now I’m rock solid. I found out that Jesus came for everyday people."

With or without You I’m going to follow Him I’m going to be His disciple. Because every breath you take he gave you. And every breath He gave me so now...I don’t fear the reaper.

I once felt like Alice in Chains all bound up, but now I am Rockin in the Free World. He is doing so much in my life that I want to make a difference in My Generation.

Guys that makes me want to shout.

New series begins this Sunday

Jesus, along with a band of a dozen men rocked the world with their message of love and hope. For the next four weeks let's go back to 30 A.D. to look into the lives of a few of the men Jesus called closest to himself. You will be surprised by their humanity and encouraged by their flaws. Come see for yourself just how similar you are to those Jesus chose to use to change the world.

I can't wait to see the backdrop Jared has been working on and to hear the band bust out a Don Henley song. More importantly I can't wait to preach God's life changing Word to our EMC family and their guests. I am so itchin' to preach. I loved the "One Prayer" series and our vacation, but I am ready to be back in the groove.

A Thought Regarding Anonymous Comments, Letters, and etc

This week I received another anonymous comment. Below is my follow up comment and a good word to those who choose to live life sending their thoughts under the cloak of anonymity:

Thanks for the comment. I do wish you would have included your name. Anonymity robs any chance of dialogue and at best weakens the arguments of well meaning people. At worse without dialogue all one is left with is diatribe.

Your failure to name yourself may have been an oversight. If not...don't go through life anonymous. Be bold and enter into the world of discussion.

Homecoming Service in Mansfield

Today was an amazing day as we went back home to preach at Mansfield First Assembly of God. I served as the associate pastor of this church for nearly 11 years. Our pastor, Tom Blair, his staff, and our Mansfield First Church family blew us away as over 1000 people gathered for today's celebration.

It was so much fun preaching to people that many I began preaching to when I was 21 years old. Mansfield First you made us feel so appreciated and so a part of your spiritual history.

You all made the launch of Embassy Metro Church possible and I thank you for that. It has been so great seeing old friends who feel like family this past week. We will always love you. I know Mansfield will always feel like home and our ministry with you will always be remembered fondly, but Woodstock is where God has called me and we have only just begun to see the fruit that will come from our ministry in Georgia.

Amie and I are so blessed to have been a part of Mansfield First Assembly. Mansfield 1st your best days are yet to come!!! We are also blessed to be a part of a great movement that is beginning in Woodstock, GA called Embassy Metro Church. All you EMC-ers, know this...we are just getting started. I can't wait until we together can look back on 10 plus years and be blown away by all God has done in and through us.

I love you all thanks for allowing Amie & I to be a part of two of the greatest churches in the U.S.A.

On Vacation

I am enjoying my time away as we see old friends and hang out with family in Ohio.

I hadn't check out the internet much since being at my folks. So this morning I was doing a little surfing and came across a great story. I think I have lived in the south just long enough to really appreciate this. Check it out as Tim McGraw handles a rowdy fan that had just got stupid with a lady in the front row of Tim's concert. I really think if the guy would have kept it up Tim would have got sideways with him. It's probably wrong to think Tim did a great thing at the concert....but if that's wrong I don't want to be right. Great job Tim standing up for the honor and saftey of one of your female fans!

Sunday Remix 6-22-08

-We are well into Summer and attendance was great. Emc-ers continue to invite friends. I loved seeing so many new faces at the Embassy yesterday.

-A waitress that Amie and I invited to church came Sunday and she brought a friend. I love it when people that you have personally invited show up at the embassy!

-Pastor Steven Furtick spoke via video for this Sunday's "One Prayer". He spoke on how God will honor audacious faith. It was amazing the buzz I was hearing from our people. There is an audacity rising in the hearts of emc-ers that I believe will propel us to reach our city.

-On Saturday we did our first "Adopt a Block" as we brought groceries to the Noonday Valley Mobile Home Park. The team did a great job connecting with the amazing people that live in this park. The neighborhood children all loved the face painting and balloons. I know God encouraged the hearts of those we had a chance to pray with. Some of you will feel called to this community I want you to plan on going again next month.

-We decided we would leave a day early for Ohio. So right now I am writing this entry from my sisters living room while the kids are going crazy on the Wii. My 6 year old boy is going wild on the bowling game. He just bowled a 215...best score of the night. He's loving it.

What a day at the Embassy!

-The "Most Dangerous Dad" Tournament went great as Jay Raymond and Daniel Shoemaker went at it in the final. Daniel in front of the big screen with cheers from a bunch of rowdy emc-ers brought the victory and a gift certificate home to momma. Congrats Daniel...valiant try Jay.

-Lately the band has been blowing me away. Yesterday was off the chain for sure. It's been great feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation during our worship experiences.

-Our people loved "Perry Noble" from NewSpring. The boy straight up brought it. It was great seeing God move on the hearts of people during the prayer time following the teaching. I don't think we'll have any problem getting a bunch of emc-ers to Perry's Unleashed Conference next year.

-I was glad our people responded well to the video format of Perry's teaching following live worship. This let's me know as we grow we can begin simulcasting a live video feed of me preaching from the main theater following a live worship experience. Right now we are using three theaters....that leaves us 13 to go!!!

-I'm loving the anticipation I am sensing in our folks. There's this sense that we can become all that God wants us to become as a revolutionary church. I have never been much for predicting numeric growth, but with what God is doing at emc I feel that we are poised to blow up. I know it's summer, but don't wait. Get in, get involved, invite your friends, and get ready to see crazy increase in your life personally and at the embassy.

-Don't forget during "One Prayer" we will meet at the church office for prayer from 6:30-7:30am. Also in June on Tuesdays we are fasting 1-3 meals. So carve out some time to seek God in prayer.

-It's exciting to think about how many book bags we are going to collect along with Revolution Church for "Give a Kid a Chance" during "One Prayer". Start bringing them in next Sunday.

"Father Make us Dangerous"

Tomorrow will be the second week of "One Prayer". The title of the teaching is "Father Make us Dangerous". Keeping with that theme we will host the "The Most Dangerous Dad" Wii boxing tournament. It begins @ 9:30 on the plasmas in the cafe'. The finale will at 10:02am in the main theater on the big screen.

You don't want to miss tomorrow. It will be a great day for fathers, but also a great day for The Father...God. The last few weeks God has been showing up and really touching the hearts of those at the embassy. I believe He's going to do some seriously significant stuff in the lives of people tomorrow. Can't wait!

Thoughts on the rest of the week

-Tomorrow at 9am a bunch of emc-ers are going camping. We're headed to Lake Conasauga and not coming back until Saturday night. This is going to be a blast!

-Today is my last day in the office this week so I'm going a little crazy tying up all the loose ends for the rest of the week.

-Sunday is going to be a great day at the Embassy. I can't wait for what God is going to do. As our staff met Monday there was a great sense of expectation in what God has planned for this weekend and for the months ahead.

-"One Prayer" launched with a bang last week. This Sunday we continue with a teaching entitled "Father Make us Dangerous". Dad's come early Sunday. Starting at 9:30am a Wii boxing tournament will begin in the foyer. The final match up with the grand prize going to the "Most Dangerous Dad" will take place on the big screen at 10:02 am.

-Sold a couple of items on ebay. Hopefully I'll get a good chunk for my guitar I'm selling this week. With gas prices the way they are everybody's budgets are stressed. So is ours. We decided it was cool if I got a mountain bike so long as it was from money that I got from selling stuff that just sits. So gone is a pair of hockey blades
and a G.I. Joe from 1970 depending on what the guitar goes for I should have enough. Oh back to the gas prices...I have every intention on biking to the church office three days a week. See Amie it's fun and economic...so stop threatening to go all Dave Ramsey on me.

-The launch of the "One Prayer" Series was powerful. God put the smack down on us. From what I am hearing and the emails I'm getting God did some amazing things in the hearts of our people. It's awesome to see people ready to experience God and God's interests like never before.

-During our one prayer series you can keep track of what others are experiencing around the nation here.

-On Tuesdays during "One Prayer" Embassy Metro Church will be fasting on Tuesdays. Give up 1-3 meals on Tuesday and carve out some time to seek God. Also from 6:30am-7:30am we will be gathering at the church office for prayer. Who said summer's when you put spiritual matters on the back burner. I know God is going to do some amazing things in us and through us this summer!!!

-Gary Lamb did a great job with his video shout out to our people. We are excited to be partnering with Revolution Church to bring a truck load of back packs to Cherokee County's "Give a Kid a Chance" event in July.

-Had a great night with a bunch of our leaders last night. I loved celebrating victories with you and hearing what God is doing through you. Ya'll rock!

Friday Five

-I can't wait for Sunday at approximately 10:30 to show up. I am about to burst with the message God has given me to preach. The "One Prayer" series is going to have a huge impact on us. If you are gone on vacation that's one thing. If you're home during the month of June you don't want to miss a week.

-Gary Lamb and I traded video greetings for our churches this weekend. It's great the two theater churches in Cherokee County are linking arms in making it hard to get to hell from Cherokee County!

-Sunday night I get to spend some time with a bunch of our emc leaders. Lookin' forward to it!

-Tomorrow night we are serving at the concert in the park in downtown Woodstock. The band playing is a chic band from Ireland. There called the Screaming Orphans. Can't wait to hear them do there stuff.

-My wife got 10 inches cut off and she looks smokin'... "come here baby and let me kiss your neck"!!!

Summer is Here

This has been a great week having the kids out of school. We took Aubie and Grant to the mountain bike trails. They had a blast in the skills area. It was awesome watching my kids going over logs, see saws, and jumps. Yeah they fell…they fell a bunch, but they wouldn’t stop until they conquered the obstacles.

Addie didn’t go to the trails. She was with a friend, but at the close of school she had me bursting with pride too.

On the last day of school I went to her awards ceremony. When I walked into the class room I was blown away with how many kids came up to me and said, “Hey Pastor Ross….What’s up Pastor” etc… I had forgotten how many of her classmates and their families are now coming to the embassy. Nearly 25% of her classmates come to emc. It was great seeing these five kid’s and how well they did this year. Great job Nathan, Katie, Jessie, Brittany, & Addie! BTW There teacher, Charlie Delanuez , has to be one of the finest teachers I have ever met. His ability to connect with the kids blows me away. Thanks Charlie for such a great year!

Sunday Remix June 1, 2008

-Shot a quick video for "One Prayer". The video will be a short shout out to Revolution Church. I'm looking forward to partnering with Gary Lamb and RC during this month's series.

-Worship was awesome today. The band rocked, but that wasn't it. God showed up in a powerful way. I love it when you can sense God is present dealing with the hearts that are lifted towards him.

-Finished out our two week series "Checkmate." This was a series dedicated to our singles. To be honest it was two of the most difficult teachings I have done. I just felt like I was missing it. I think it's just been so long since I was single. After listening to the podcast I felt better. It's wierd how crappy you can feel when teaching, but that not be known by those hearing the teaching. 9 times out of 10 when I feel like that, that's when the teaching was awesome. To be honest, I think it has something to do with spiritual warfare.

-Attendance was decent for the first Sunday of June.

-A bunch of 20 somethings had a BBQ at Jared and Charla's. I love all the young people at EMC and I love being your pastor.

One of the great ones has left the building

Just read that the legendary Bo Diddley has past.

Family Night Friday

Getting ready to leave to go see Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. My kids have been bugging me since opening night.

An Amazing Act of Kingdom Mindedness

A friend of mine at a local church relaized how much stuff they had just sitting in storage. He sent out the invite to come see if we could use anything. It was amazing how many things we recently said we needed were in that storage unit.

Brantley has a lot of ideas that will take our "Kid's Live" environment to the next level. Many of the things needed were in that storage unit.

Some things we needed for the office...were in that storage unit. Other things for our main auditorium and cafe...were in that storage unit.

What an amazing act of kingdom mindedness as one local church blessed another local church with so much. That's what it's all about. We are on the same team with the same coach. It's awesome when the church acts like that. During our "One Prayer" series we will be embracing this truth even more. I can't wait!

Great Memorial Day Weekend

-Trailer hitch lost the cotter pin and the hitch fell out of the receiver. This all happened 40 yards from the front of the theater.

-The Load Control Team was amazing. We lost 20 minutes because of the trailer fiasco, but we still started church on time. Great job team!

-Worship rocked Sunday. God definitely visited the hearts of those gathered.

-I preached to our singles today. I felt a little out of my element realizing that I've been married 14 years and "off the market" for 17. I think I was still able to relate God's word to the teaching target audience, but I never got feeling comfortable in the course of the teaching.

-Early Sunday evening I got to get coffee with a man who "gets it". He has risen the corporate ladder, and is in demand within his industry. What was so refreshing about him was what caused his eyes to gleam over with excitement. It wasn't his business that takes him all over the world, but rather the joy that he has to see his family grow in God. Also it was his passion to see new communities of faith reaching those far from God.

-On Monday we had mass amounts of meat and cold pasta salads...Nuff said.

-It was great having a bunch of friends over yesterday. The kids had a blast and no one went to the hospital...Nuff said.

Tornado in Cherokee County

Yesterday I was at the Serene Bean having a meeting with someone when the Tornado Alarm went off. We looked outside and it was a bright and beautiful early Georgia evening. It didn't take long for all that to change. Soon inch round hail began to fall and the winds began to blow. We made our way to the back room to talk and avoid the possible imploding glass front of the cafe'.

There was a college student who was freaking out. She said she was from Seattle and wondered how we would know if a tornado was close. I told her the "it will sound like a train" line and she said, "OK". It wasn't 3 minutes later and the sound of a train filled the Coffee shop. The young lady dove under the table and prepared for the worst. The funny thing....who would have thought right at that moment a train would come down the tracks that run directly beside the Serene Bean. The train whistled and assured us that it was not the tornado. I tried not to laugh to hard at what fate had dealt the student. On the way home, after the tornado had hit just a couple miles from us, I had a good laugh at the timing of it all. Poor girl she'll be happy to get back to Seattle where she has to face the rain, but the roar of the "train" rarely comes.

If anyone needs post storm help just email me and we'll see what we can do.
